My excuses for not posting have dried up. A little while ago I finished a long semester of school and working at two newspapers seven days a week. Now, I've moved on to an internship with Public Radio International. I hope to be posting on a regular basis from now on. I will be posting fresh content, as well as photos that may not have seen the light of day from the semester.

Wild goalie Josh Harding and center James Sheppard are long time friends and now full time recovery buddies. The two suffered the same injury to their knee earlier in the season. Now everyday they train. Separated from the team they lean on each other for support and getting back through rehab.

Started working with the Star Tribune this week through a practicum course that the U. Started shooting on Friday and I can't wait for a great semester of assignments.

On Saturday I shot the BEAR'ly Open golf tournament fundraising event in White Bear Lake. There were tennis balls and alcohol everywhere.

It is now a Monday.

Yesterday was the loss of the very talented Mike Laresen. I had the fortune of working with him, taking the promotional pictures for Eyedea and Abilities' last album. He had spontaneity, combined with energetic genius, that has yet to be rivaled by anyone I've worked with.

I wish the best to the friends and family who are now mourning his death.

Working with him was one of the first achievements I had as a photographer in the Minneapolis area.

This leads into the other strange part of Sunday: Tim Brewster gets fired. I have been shooting for his recruitment department during the past year. Though the season was worse than anyone expected, I never expected it to end like this. Brewster is obviously not a tragedy like the Mikey, but they both left an eerie feeling as I saw accomplishments in shadows.

Loss to South Dakota

I'm fortunate enough to again cover games for the Gophers. This was their first game of the season and they suffered a loss 38-41 to South Dakota. Everyone was a bit off that day including myself. I tried shooting half Canon glass and a 7D along with my D700. It was awkward, and I decided I don't like the controls and plastic feel of the Canon body. Live and Learn.

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon during finals week, I finally figured I finally have enough time to blog. School and life in general have kept me posting anything. Putting up pictures in this medium are second priority to everything else. Though late, out of order, minorly edited, here they are. Don't complain.

This photo (see slideshow here) got national first place for SPJ feature photo as well as the Daily being the best college newspaper. Mom and Dad were proud. The victory got some press on MinnPost (they say hire me sometime) and City Pages. Enough gloating, enjoy pictures...

Sports Puke

All Over The Place

There has been quite the hiatus with posts on this blog. I hope this next series of things doesn't disappoint. The next few sets of photos are from all around Minnesota (and Ohio) and illustrate many different things going on around the state (and then football shots of course).

This series is from Jensen Air Field which is a small grass airstrip in Rosemount, MN. The tight community of pilots has been there since the 80's.

There are only a few shots from Minnesota Roller Girls practice. However much more from around the state after the "read more..."

The next week I traveled to the Iron range with reporter Jesse VanBerkel to learn more about a study by the U on miners and repertory cancer. I found out the hard way by homeland security you're not allowed to take pictures of active mines.

Then it was off to Columbus Ohio this weekend for the Ohio State vs. Minnesota Game for the Daily. It was a crazy game atmosphere that just narrowly tops the TCF Stadium opening.

Fashion & 400mm

On a Sunday afternoon fashion hit the streets. It was a few models for a day, the Daily's fashionista, other A&E'er John Sand, and myself armed with a soft-box and 50mm. This was my first attempt at anything fashion related. Honestly, even my own wardrobe is t-shirt and jeans and even on this day I showed up with staff t-shirt and dirty khaki shorts with a massive hole in the butt. Either way we hit a back alley and set up our changing station. Even a homeless man quietly came by and looked through a Dumpster the clothes were hanging on. The results of this two hour madness below and after the jump;

These are from this weekends Gopher game against #8 Cal. It ended up being a fairly close game till the 4th quarter with the final score of 35-21.

DeLeon Eskridge had only 21 yards rushing for 7 attempts;

The unstoppable Best who scored an incredible 5 Td's;

Brandon Green getting knocked over after a catch;

Weber threw for 2 Td's and 3 Int's;

Deker was knocked out following this TD catch. He later scored caught another and threw one as well;

Best rushed for 131 yards;

Troy Stoudermire had 3 receptions on for the Gophers;

Kevin Riley threw for 252 yards, but Best scored all the TD's on the ground;

A tough loss for the Gophers, but still good considering what a great day Best had. I'll be shooting them again in Northwestern this Saturday. More photos to come.

Oranges & Falcons

Recently I have shot a ton of football. Both for the Daily and now my new job shooting for the Gophers on game days. This blog is a mix of the two games. There's a ton of pictures after the jump so be prepared to wait for load times.

Syracuse was for the Daily. I was flown out there and crashed on couches for two nights. I only packed photo gear so I was really happy when I got home to change cloths and shower.

Then shooting for the Gophers at their first ever home game in the new stadium. It was completely sold out and a lot of fun.

Beats & Balls

The last few weeks I have been taking a little break from shooting and working on a book and new branding. It will most definitely be a blog in the future about all that because of its' DIY awesomeness.

Either way featured in this blog post are shots from two minneapolis events that happened in the last week. First is the national touring producer battle competition Red Bull Big Tune. The other is from the Gopher's first time playing a scrimmage in the new TCF Bank Stadium.

Thrash & Crash

I rented the 24 tilt shift lens to take pictures of the 35w bridge for the MN Daily. Since I rented it on a saturday I got two days of tilt shift fun. Luckily I had a few things I needed to shoot and that lens just made them so much better.

First of was Red Bull Bailout. It was a skate comp on a massive stair set right by the mississippi. There were tons of people who showed up making this event super successful. I'm not a skate photog so I covered the culture aspect of the event.

Also the next day was the Vans Warped Tour. Took very minimal pictures, but met and hung out with a bunch of cool photogs.

This guy is an amazing self taught graphic designer. I loved his work and his appartment was a great place to have a shoot! Unfortunately it had to be pretty quick so me and my reporter didn't make him late for work.

Farmland & Foam Fighters

This week was one of the most random weeks I've had in quite a long time. On Friday I went to Morris MN to talk to dairy farmers making the transition to organic cattle raising. The next day I met up with some foam fighters I had shot the week before in Plainview MN for an area meet of medieval fighting. I was able to experience both extremes of the southern part of Minnesota. Very busy trying to edit all of the content and get a few other assignments done! This was really one of the first times I had done both photo and video at the same time on the assignment. I also was able to export it all in HD so it looks much better than the one from last week. Enjoy!

Tree Climbing & Capitols

It has been quite a fun and busy week. First off I decided to start doing video more seriously. To do so I invested in a new camera that shoots HD footage to SD cards, it's pretty nuts and I'm still getting the hang out it. I really just need help on the post production side of things as far as operating programs like final cut. Also this weekend I had friends from Duluth down for a fun time of going to the zoo, watching bad movies, and BBQ'ing.

An hour after getting my camera in the mail, my new roommate Bob asked if I wanted to try slacklining, I was pretty excited for that and testing out my new camera!

I also made two trips to the capitol in two days for two different major events. The first day I was lucky enough to get a camera into the appeal hearing of the Senate trail. I just got there early and chatted with the PR guy who wouldnt let me except the other guy showed up late! I got semi exclusives for the paper check the Daily for a full slide show.

Sound Set 09: Blog Bandwidth Blowout

This weekend was Sound Set 09, I was fortunate enough to be apart of the "internet crew" and post pictures on the blog through out the day tag teaming the day with San Fran photog Jeff Lugar. House Fire

Two fire trucks went racing by my house on Saturday afternoon. I figured I'd see what was happening and cover it for the Daily. Ended up be a pretty substantial house fire.

Arrived on the scene;

Resident Tom Wedan and neighbor watch as the fire is put out.

Fire fighters work to put out remaining flames;

Such a scary event. I couldn't get the smell of smoke off of me. Best of luck to Tom and his housemates.

Apologies for Delays and the Lazy Lightroom Edits

After an extremely long week I am finally able to post some pictures to a blog. The last week was writing a research paper as well as working in between. Luckily school is almost over and I will be on a full time quest for a story I want to cover in depth this summer.

This week our Day in the Life paper was released featuring photography done by our staff for 24 hours. The following is the slide show featuring everything printed. Below that is a few things I shot that were my favorites of the day.

Also on Thursday there was a group of protestors against having recruiting offices near/on campus. There was also a group protesting the protest guarding the recruitment office. These events took place;

I like getting in the middle of it all when covering things like this. The problem is people think I'm on a certain side. The only thing I really want is good pictures in the end. Sometime soon I would love to have a full nights sleep, but it probably won't be this week.

Rappers and Flowers, Flowers and Friends, Friendly-Fire

I did a shoot with Big Quarters last Tuesday during my busy week of picture taking. They were super fun to hang out with and we just did a shoot at Brandon's (left) apartment. Thanks to Chris Roberts for the light holding! The shoot took less time then it did to bus back which was hilarious with a body load of gear to haul.

On Saturday afternoon my good friend Jason came down from Duluth. I finally was able to meet his friend Annie. They are so much fun together and we had a great time at the Como Zoo.

Earlier that morning I went to Jordan Minnesota to cover the University's Paintball team who are going to nationals. I covered their practice and what an new experience that was! I was wearing a mask and could barely see through the viewfinder. I was pretty much no looking the 300/2.8, but luckily came out with some good stuff.

I made an audio slideshow to commemorate the occasion;

The end of the school year is almost here and the adventure hasn't even begun.

Good Use of 60$

For a shoot I decided to rent a 24mm pc nikkor lens. I was really excited to try it out, but not excited to write a 1800$ deposit check(which would most definitely bounce). I had 2 shoots I used it for, but to get my money's worth I just kept shooting. It was inspiring to see things in a new way and I ended up taking 900 photos in 2 days. By the end of it my brain hurt and I was seeing real life in tilt shift perspective...

In United Noodle We Trust...

This weekend I worked a lot. First off I was fortunate enough to hangout and hold a light for Jeremy Cowart after finishing a rough week of school.

That man is amazing and it was great to see someone like that work.

I had to leave early to head to Duluth to cover "protests" of soulja boy. There was a total of 7 people standing around with signs (my reporter told me there were going to be 40). After covering the RNC it's just boring if no one's getting tear gassed or arrested.

The concert was sold out. I was pissed because I couldn't shoot from the pit or get a portrait.

The next morning woke up and headed back to minneapolis at 7 in the morning for a story at 11.

That day I finally was able to sleep and then I worked till shooting at a bar for Red Bull who are trying to do a giant poster for Bootleggers bar. I'm using the same space for a shoot on wednesday morning.

Brains, Brunettes, Millions Billions, Kittens

Also did a 15 min shoot with former american idol contestant Casey Carlson for a story by Kara Nevsig.

Then I'll finally put up a little video work. Not as great as I wanted this one to be, mostly because of the export and the fact that my trail version of Final Cut Express is over so I can't fix it now along with the banding. Millions Billions was outside in the cold playing at Red Bull's open ice so I took some video of him. No sound just because it was too windy and the d90 has horrible audio.

After a long season of driving all over the place, fighting a broken collarbone, and release delays my friend Alex Horner finally released his edit of winching.

Also...

Band friends The Anytime released their new myspace with my picture as the header. After a long day of shooting before they headed out to New York we had to redo the photos because the members looked old to the manager. I was a little disappointed because I loved the other pictures, but it was fun to hangout with these guys again. They paid in pizza.

These guys just got picked up by the same guy who manages Versa Emerge and are going to be the next poster on teen girls walls across the country. Plus their myspace looks saweet thanks to designbyjeff.

Finally...

I also did a photo for the Daily of president Bob Bruininks. After a long interview I was able to snap 15 frames while his next meeting people crowded around me. I do not want this guys job having to cut millions off a budget.

I did a shoot for Mike as a promo for an upcoming show his band Lights Out Dancing is doing on his 21st birthday.

Here's a preview, I'll let your mind fill in the blanks for now;

For the rest of the time we hung out and shot pics at his awesome lakeside house in Minnetonka;

Then added a cat;

Moved off the white wall and changed cats;

The danger of cat photography;

Then played with some fruit (which is a little safer);

We were lucky to have an amazing sunset with great light;

Had a great time taking pictures and hangin out. Three bear balloons were lost during this shoot however (moment of silence). Mike is out on tour right now so best of luck to him and his band.

Last Day of Winter

On the last sunday of winter (or at least useable snow) Horner, Buck, Mckeever, Skier Steve, and myself went out for a day of filming with the winch.
